What is a septic filter? Does it need to be cleaned?

In 2000, the State started requiring a septic filter to be installed on the outlet end of every new septic system installed.  Any system installed since then will have that filter, and it is supposed to be cleaned annually.  Many people are not aware of this and are having backups in their house on fairly new systems.  We often get called to a house and the only problem is that the filter is clogged.  If you have a system that is newer than the year 2000, it is a good idea to know where the filter is and how to clean it.  We are happy to come clean it for you and show you how to do it in the future.
