How often do residential septic tanks need to be serviced?

It really depends on how many people are living in the house.  The state recommends pumping the tank every 3-5 years.  We recommend at least checking the levels every 3 years.  If the levels are fine, the tank doesn’t need to be pumped.  This means that the bacteria in the tank are working well and do not need to be disrupted.
